Photo Tips
Photographing your pet for a portrait

When I work from your photos, the quality of the photos you send me is crucial to the accuracy and quality of the finished portrait.

Some tips to keep in mind:

  1. Get as CLOSE as possible without blurring the image.
  2. Focus on your horse's FACE and head (unless you want a whole body drawing).
  3. Take the photos OUTDOORS in good natural light (a bright overcast day works best).
  4. The best view of your horse is usually THREE-QUARTERS.
  5. Try to keep the background LIGHT or uncomplicated.
  6. Take photos from SEVERAL ANGLES or different poses
  7. I can only work with what I can see, if you have a particular expression, ear set etc. that you want in the portrait be sure that it is in the photos.
  8. If possible send a selection of photos and indicate your favorite, this helps me get a "feel" for your horse.
